Yomawari: Midnight Shadows takes everything good about the first game and builds on it, resulting in one of the most creepy and affecting horror games of recent memory. William Adams makes for a fantastic hero, and monstrous add it is, Nioh ‘s world is also utterly beautiful.ĭark Souls has inspired a lot of imitators, but until this year, none has been able to match FromSoftware’s iconic game. Its combat is more aggressive and intricate thanks to the Ki Pulse system and some creative skill trees.
It follows in Dark Souls ‘ footsteps in a lot of ways, most noticeably its animation-heavy combat system, creepy world, and punishing level of challenge.īut it also finds its own niche, thanks to a rich tapestry of Japanese yokai and historical figures. Nioh wears its inspiration on its sleeve.
